The Providence Bruins made a move today, signing left wing Calle Ridderwall to an amateur contract. As per the P-Bruins' press release, details of the contract have not been disclosed. Ridderwall is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a native of Stockholm, Sweden. He racked up a respectable 57 goals and 34 assists in 156 games over the course of his time with the Fighting Irish.

Ridderwall is the only undrafted player in the Irish's top-five in goal scoring last season. As a Junior, he led the Irish in scoring on a team that incuded AHL standouts Ian Cole (Peoria) and Kyle Palmieri (Syracuse). In that season, he scored two hat tricks, the first Irish player to do that since 1988.

After the jump, more on Ridderwall's career accomplishments and what we can expect from him in Providence...

Most recently, Ridderwall tallied in the NCAA regional game against Merrimack College, a power-play goal in Notre Dame's elimination of the Warriors. He was recognized as one of the CCHA's elite goal scorers last year. The biggest goal of his career, though, had to be his 2008 Frozen Four OT goal to send the Irish to the Championship, which they eventually lost to Boston College.

Ridderwall will have a good amount of competition in Providence at the LW position; between the glut of signed centers (Jamie Arniel, Zach Hamill, Carter Camper, Trent Whitfield, Josh Hennessy, and Stefan Chaput) and wingers (Max Sauve, Craig Cunningham, and Lane MacDermid), the team will have some decisions to make as to who's playing where. The Bruins must have liked what they saw in Ridderwall this past year. Look for him to make some waves in Providence this season.
