Bruins Quacked In Anaheim

The Bruins entered the second period of Wednesday night's game against Anaheim up 3-2 and looking to win their first game since January 5. The end of the third period, though, saw the Ducks score two goals and give the Bruins their third straight loss and their fourth loss in five games.

I planned on filling this post with references from Disney's Might Ducks movies, but after watching that game and getting little sleep, I just don't have it in me today.  West coast road trips on work nights are the worst.

Jonas Hiller started for the Ducks and didn't look to sharp, but stopped 27 of 30 shots and was goo enough to win the game. Tuukka Rask was between the pipes for the black and gold and just like Hiller, he didn't look particularly sharp. Rask managed to stop 28 of 32 shots but was left out to dry a few times by his defense. Luckily Rask was able to make some keys saves to keep the Bruins in it for most of the game.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good

Chara's Reaction. At the end of the first period, Zdeno Chara whiffed on what would've been a tying goal and he was pissed about it. I wish I could find the video, but Chara axe-smashed his stick onto the concrete wall and was visibly upset he missed that puck. Am I disappointed he missed the puck? Sure, but I love the raw emotion afterwords. In short, you could say that outburst of frustration is a microcosm of the Bruins season

Marco Sturm. In the second period, Mark Recchi threw the puck towards the net because he was close to the blue line. What happened then was Sturm got his stick on the puck and had a beautiful tip-in to give the Bruins the lead. Sturm is slowly morphing in to the scorer the Bruins have been looking for all season. He currently leads the Bruins with 15 goals and should be somewhere around the 27-29 he had when he was healthy two seasons ago.

The Bad

Defense. Again, the defense left the goaltender out to try in a few big spots. With Mark Stuart and Andrew Ference out, the B's are left with a patch work defense that is under performing, big time. In the off-seasons Bruins fan (self included) were saying how great Matt Hunwick will be, how the Bruins need to re-sign him, so where the hell is he? Before last night, Hunwick has been invisible in the box scores and a huge liability on the ice. Maybe being paired with Morris will allow the young man to relax and play better hockey. Adam McQuaid looked good in his first period fight with Troy Bodie.  The Bruins need Stuart as soon as possible.

The Ugly

Boston. I predicted the Bruins to go 0-3 on this road trip because they have no heart, no passion and they play sloppy hockey. Last night, I thought (for the most part) that the Bruins played a good hockey game. They were chippy, tough and put the puck in the net more than once. Except for a breakdown in the third period, the Bruins played well enough to win, but as their luck is lately, they didn't.

Win of the Night

Shawn Thornton grabbing Ryan Getzlaf and dragging him to the ground in the large scrum that happened.
