The New Jersey Devils (6-4-0) will roar into Boston tonight to take on the Boston Bruins (5-4-1) at the TDBank Garden. New Jersey has been terrible at home, but on the road the Devils are one of the best teams in the NHL, capped off by a 4-1 thrashing at home by the Buffalo Sabres.
The Bruins are coming off of a 4-3 shootout win in Ottawa and looking for their first back-to-back win this year.
New Jersey is 5-0-0 this year on the road, while the Bruins are 3-3 at home.
3 Bruin Keys To Winning:
1. Continue to kill penalties. The Bruins penalty kill has been great over the past few games. Guys like Dan Paille and Steve Begin have added a veteran edge to an abysmal penalty kill. Currently the Bruins rank 22nd in the penalty kill at 75.6%, which is a step up from their 69.5% pk from about a week ago. The Devils power play isn't anything special as they rank 23rd in the NHL with a 17.1% success rate with the man advantage.
2. Beat the best. Face it, Martin Broduer is an absolutely monster. The Bruins are going to have to find ways to put the puck past him if they are going to win. I know, that's an obvious statement, but it's something the Bruins have had trouble doing. Broduer did play against the Sabres last night, but he didn't play very well. Broduer stopped 23 out of 27 shots, but took the loss.
3. Come Out Strong The Bruins haven't played since Saturday and New Jersey just played last night. Based on that, Boston needs to come out in the first period and play their game. A goal or two in the first period will allow the Bruins to neutralize the Devil's neutral zone trap game. If the Boston falls behind a goal or two, that trap game could absolutely kill any chance Boston has to win.
