The Boston Bruins (19-12-7) welcome the Atlanta Thrashers (18-16-4) to the TDBank Garden (it's still the TDBank Garden right?) where the Bruins come off of a road trip where they went 1-1. The last time the Bruins met Atlanta, it was in the Garden where the Bruins won 6-4, but Atlanta scratched and clawed their way back in to the game a few times.
Bruins' 3 Keys To Winning
1. Play A Full 60 Minutes. Against the Florida Panthers the Bruins played pretty well but then laid an egg against the Tampa Bay Lightning. As Bruins fans we've watched this team come out and play a good 20 minute effort, a good 40 minute effort but rarely have we seen a solid 60 minute effort. I'm sick of hearing Claude come out after the games and ramble something like "If you need another team to get you going, you're in trouble" or the usual "We didn't play a full game tonight and we need to." The Bruins need to give a full 60 minute effort tonight if they want to beat Atlanta. Atlanta has one of the best scores in the NHL who undressed Thomas a week or so ago when Kovalchuk received a pass which allowed him to get a breakaway.
2. Limit Ilya. It sounds so simple right? Limit Ilya Kovalchuk. Of course, it's a hard thing to do, the guy is a machine. Kovalchuk won't take the body, everyone who knows hockey knows this, but he is a fast guy who can skate circles around any defender on any team. He can also put the puck in the net time and time again. Limit Ilya's chances and you'll limit the Atlanta offense.
3. Check, Check, Check. Against the Lightning, the Bruins spent the first period getting blasted with checks. Tampa was hitting Boston up and down the ice and it really put the Bruins on the defensive. For the Bruins to play their "brand" of hockey, they need to come out slamming bodies into the boards and onto the ice. If the Bruins come out tonight like the Lightning started the game on Sunday, Boston will slide through this one.
